Gilberto Mazzoli, postdoctoral scholar in North American Environmental History, has recently published a new blog post for the OffRoad project, presenting ongoing research on the environmental history of roadkill. The post, titled “Collisions: Driving Through Digital Humanities in Search of Roadkill,” is available here.

Last year, Gilberto was awarded the ESEH–Gale Fellowship in Digital Environmental Humanities, granted jointly by the European Society for Environmental History (ESEH) and Gale Publishing, to develop a digital project exploring how early 20th-century automobility shaped the production of environmental knowledge in the United States.

As part of this work, he created interactive maps tracing the itineraries of zoologists who recorded roadkill during their automobile trips. The new blog post highlights both the methodological challenges and the outcomes of this project.
